Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered wood flooring is a good alternative to solid wood flooring.

It is “engineered” with cross ply using two or more layers that are laminated together.

The top layer is the real wood. There are various finishes available including oak, maple, walnut, beech, cherry, ash, pine and teak.

There are actually some advantages in using engineered flooring versus unfinished solid wood flooring. One is that engineered wood flooring is installed as “finished” wood meaning that it seldom needs to be varnished, sanded or otherwise treated on site. Depending on the depth of the surface layer it can also be sanded after a few years of use. Better quality engineered wood flooring can sometimes be sanded two or three times. This type of flooring often comes with a long manufacturer’s guarantee.
